Who I Am

I’m Ron Hegler, a multidisciplinary engineer with decades of experience in electronics, firmware, system design, and product development. I’ve worked with startups and established companies, developing products for industries including instrumentation, consumer electronics, industrial controls, and highly regulated aviation and medical environments.

My specialties include low‑level analog, mixed‑signal, and microcontroller‑based designs, along with design techniques and mitigation strategies for EMI, RFI, and ESD.

My role is that of a senior contributor — someone who can own a design, manage the details, and still keep the broader system in view. I’m flexible in my approach; during the design process, new ideas often emerge that can meaningfully improve the final product, and I’m always attentive to those opportunities.

For larger projects, I collaborate with the team at Five Design & Development, giving clients the flexibility of a small consultancy with the capability of a full engineering group.

How I work

• Requirements Intake — You provide your requirements, constraints, and any existing documentation, sketches, or prototypes.
• Requirements Clarification — I review your inputs, ask targeted questions, and identify risks, assumptions, and missing details.
• Statement of Work (SOW) — I deliver a clear document describing what I will design and what I will deliver.
• Architecture & Design — I develop the system architecture, component selections, schematics, and design rationale aligned with the agreed requirements.
• Prototype Build — I assemble or oversee assembly of the first prototypes, ensuring they reflect the intended design.
• Bring‑Up & Testing — I power up, debug, and verify the design against the requirements, documenting findings and any recommended improvements.
• Iteration & Refinement — If needed, I revise the design to address test results, performance improvements, or new insights discovered during evaluation.
• Final Deliverables — You receive the finalized design files, documentation, test results, and any recommendations for manufacturing or next steps.
